ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Dignitaries, family and friends paid their respects to the late Assemblyman David Gantt on Saturday.

The service began at 10 a.m. at the Church of Love and Faith Center on Exchange Boulevard. Pastor Revered Terrance Youman presided over the service, which lasted over two hours.

Mayor Lovely Warren conveyed a heartfelt eulogy to her lifelong mentor.

"My boss man was a man of integrity and strength," Warren said. "Didn’t back down from any challenge and somehow made a way out of no way... David taught all of us that the seats that we hold are to be cherished, to be respected and these seats are for the public."

Other speakers included Monroe County Executive Adam Bello, Congressman Joe Morelle, Rochester City Council President Loretta Scott, State Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples-Stokes, and Monroe County Legislator Vince Felder.

Gantt died last Wednesday after battling health issues for several years.
