ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Rochester City School District Board of Education voted Tuesday night to authorize the presence of Rochester Police Officers at the city’s 11 high schools.

They will be used for a 30-day interim period before evaluations are taken. They would be outside the schools, in their cars during arrival and dismissal, unless they're needed.

This follows an increase in violence at RCSD schools.

On Oct. 29, 2021, five teachers at Franklin High School were injured during an incident and earlier that month, a Franklin High School teacher claims a student physically and sexually assaulted her after she broke up a fight.

The four unions that represent RCSD employees have asked the district to bring RPD officers back into schools, among other requests, to address the violence.

The officers were taken out of schools last year.
