GATES, N.Y. (WHEC) — Saturday was a celebration of survival and resilience for two young children who were hit by a car a year ago in Gates.

In July of 2019, Jamie McDonald was pulling his 10-month-old son and two-year-old daughter in a wagon when a car left Lyell Avenue and ran them over. Miraculously, both children survived.

On Saturday, McDonald and others gathered in the plaza where the crash happened, where they had a prayer before releasing balloons.

"There could have been a way different outcome than what we have right now, so I'm just blessed," said McDonald. "I've been told by many about miracles, I've read about miracles, but until you see a miracle right in front of you, you don't really believe in it."

McDonald said he wanted to thank all the people who rushed over to help his children after the crash.
