ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — At Rochester Institute of Technology Friday, the Army and Air Force ROTC programs joined with the rest of the campus community for a vigil.

Flags are placed in the ground, one for each of the 9/11 victims.

Taps were played at 8:46, 9:03, 9:37, and 10:03, starting with the time the first plane hit the World Trade Center to the plane that crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.

"It's important to have this event every single year so we continue to not forget," ROTC Cadet Zachary Derck said. "It's also for myself, it's one of the reasons why I committed to serve. I was barely alive when it happened but it still sticks with me to this day. I want to make this commitment for the people that we lost that day."
