ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Rochester City School District's Board of Education has released a statement on early Saturday morning's mass shooting on Pennsylvania Avenue.
The two fatalities of the shooting were recent graduates of area schools, and those injured were as young as 17.
The Board of Education's full statement is below.
"Dear Rochester community:
It is hard to find the words that can adequately express the sorrow and grief we share with the victims of yesterday’s senseless shootings.
In fact, these shootings have had a direct impact on many of our District students and families, and our entire community will have some grieving and healing to do as a result the losses.
Not only is this why must we must come together as a community and support those who have suffered loss, but this is also why we must find a way, as a community, to end all of this tragic and senseless violence.
Sadly, the period ahead will be a time of tears, anguish, and pain. We must pray for the families suffering from unimaginable loss, but then, at some point, turn our thoughts to imagining how our community might prevent this kind of violence in the future. The Rochester City School District will, no doubt, be a part of that important community conversation. But in the meantime, as these victims heal, please join us in our prayers for the victims, their families, and for peace.
Thank you. "
