ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The City of Rochester has declared a heat emergency for Thursday.
This means that cool sweep operations will continue through Friday. The city will be providing neighbors with ways to get relief from the heat.
R-Center spray parks and features at the MLK park playground will be open from noon to 6 p.m.
News10NBC spoke with one mom who brought the kids out to keep cool Thursday.
"[I feel]Thankful, grateful, and happy to be here," Rochester resident Amber Spinks said. "It's fun, it's free, it's something for them to do. I mean it keeps them going, keeps them out of the house and keeps the going, that's all that matters."
They were also there for a celebration because Amber's daughter just turned five.
The Genesee Valley Park pool is open seven days a week from noon to 7 p.m.
Since Thursday is a heat emergency, the David F. Gantt R-center will also be open as a cooling center between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 pm.
