Rochester man accused of attacking man with hockey stick pleads not guilty to assault

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Rochester man charged with assault after police say he attacked a man who was just trying to get back to his car with his family after going to the Blue Cross Arena Sunday night Monday pleaded not guilty.

The attack left the victim injured, but police say he is expected to survive. Tyrone Oliver is accused of hitting the victim with a hockey stick several times.

The victim and his family—his wife and 9-year-old—were trying to get to their car in the Civic Center Ramp garage on S. Fitzhugh Street at around 4 p.m. Sunday when it happened.

Police confirmed to News10NBC that Oliver is the same man who was arrested for assaulting a police officer back in 2020.

He is being held on $10,000 cash bail, $50,000 bond, $75,000 partially secured bond.
