Rochester man pleads guilty to homicide in July 2020 Jay and Orchard shooting

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Rochester man Tuesday pleaded guilty to first degree manslaughter in the July 2020 shooting death of Shaqur Nesmith.

It happened on July 22, 2020, at the corner of Jay and Orchard streets.

Nicholas Serret, 25, fired six to 10 shots at Nesmith, who died from his injuries at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Serret will serve 20 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision. He is scheduled to be sentenced on April 26, 2022.
