ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren and her challenger in the Democratic primary, Malik Evans, faced off Tuesday night in a televised debate.
Topics covered the gamut, the death of Daniel Prude, police reform, housing, as well as campaign finance allegations against the mayor and her husband's recent drug and weapons arrest.
In her opening statement, the mayor said, "I don't have what some may say is a perfect life. I have a life that is like so many Rochester and, at times it's imperfect. At this moment, I believe that is exactly what our city needs. A mayor who relates to your challenges."
City Councilman Malik Evans was asked about his experience on the Rochester City School Board and City Council.
Evans also talked about the city's response to the death of Daniel Prude.
"The gulf that we have in our community is something that I have not seen in my lifetime," Evans said. "Elected officials, including the other branch of government, absolutely has a right to know, when it happens, not nine months later, but when it happens."
News10NBC also took an In-Depth look at the money raised by each candidate.
News10NBC has learned Evans is far outpacing Warren in raising funds. We took a closer look at the campaign finance disclosure forms filed with the state Board of Elections.
