ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A man was found dead inside a car on Brown Street Tuesday morning and Rochester police are investigating it as a homicide.
This is the city's 66th homicide this year.
Investigators say someone driving by, stopped to look inside the car because something didn't seem right, and that's when they found a man between his 30s and 40s dead in the driver seat.
Neighbors around Brown Street and Terry Street told News10NBC they were shocked at what they saw.
"Someone knocked on my door, then I saw what was out here,” Pamela Brown said.
Brown says she's lived on the street for six years and says it’s usually pretty quiet.
"It's unfortunate that these things are happening, it’s unfortunate that we're in a time and place today. I wouldn't want that to happen in my front yard, back yard, you know?” Brown said.
Investigators say, right now they're unsure of when and where the murder happened, but what they could tell us was around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, people driving down the street stopped to look inside the car, when they noticed something suspicious.
"Driving down Brown Street, observed a male in the vehicle pulled over to the side of the road and male seemed unresponsive, stopped to check on him and immediately called 911,” said Capt. Frank Umbrino.
It was unclear how the victim died, police say it’s still very early into the investigation.
"I have not actually seen the victim yet, and we're not going to get into any of that yet, the evidence tech needs to comb through it, once the medical examiner gets here he can point us into the direction of a cause of death,” Umbrino added.
Police are still searching for leads in the case, anyone with information is asked to call them.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911, the Major Crimes Unit at 585-428-7157, CrimeStoppers at 585-423-9300, or email MajorCrimes@cityofrochester.gov.
