ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Rochester Police Department is investigating a homicide on the city's southwest side.

Officers responded to Jefferson Avenue and Bartlett Street at around 12:45 p.m. for multiple shots heard Wednesday.

Officers found 31-year-old Eric L. Ruise near the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds. Ruise was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say multiple suspects fired more than 20 rounds from multiple weapons at Ruise.

No suspects are in custody. The Major Crimes Unit asks anyone with information to call 911, the Major Crimes Unit at (585) 428-7157, Crime Stoppers at (585) 423-9300, or email: MajorCrimes@cityofrochester.gov.

During a briefing with media earlier Wednesday afternoon, police said the gun violence is non stop and something has to change.

City Council Vice President Willie Lightfoot says he heard the gunshots from his barbershop down the street.

"The violence in our community has to stop, it has to stop and it's going to take our entire community to be outraged and it's going to take all of us to step up to the plate and say enough is enough and we're not going to allow this violence in our community," Lightfoot said.
