ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)— Rochester Police say a man is facing a murder charge in connection to the death of the mother of his children Sunday morning.

26-year-old Ahmed Ali was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with second-degree murder. The release on Ali’s arrest was shared on Twitter by the Rochester Police Locust Club.

Officers were called to a home on Argo Park near Driving Park Avenue around 11:30 a.m. for the call of an unresponsive woman. When they got there, police say they found 23-year-old Arbay Chivala dead in her apartment.

All four of Chivala’s children were also in the apartment, all of them are under four years old.

Police found out it was Ali who called 911. They say he told investigators he originally went to the apartment to pick up one of his children and found Chivala’s body. Police say due to the circumstance in which her body was found, RPD’s Major Crimes Unit was called in to investigate.

On Monday, the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Chivala’s death a homicide, and that lead to Ali’s arrest the following day.

This marks the 42nd homicide in Rochester in 2021.

Monroe County Jail records show he was arraigned Wednesday and is due back in court on Monday.
