ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester Police arrested a man in connection to a deadly hit-and-run crash that took place in March.

Police arrested and charged 18-year-old Benzino Reed with second-degree manslaughter and tampering with physical evidence in connection with the death of 57-year-old Kerry Traver.

Officers say on the night of March 11, Reed was driving east on Jay Street when he hit and killed Traver as he rode his bicycle down the street.

Reed allegedly hit Traver as Reed was attempting to pass another vehicle going east on Jay Street when he crossed the double solid yellow line and entered the westbound lane.

Reed drove off and did not report the crash, according to police.

Investigators say Reed later attempted to get rid of the car by selling it to a local salvage yard and having the car crushed.

Reed is in the Monroe County Jail awaiting arraignment Thursday morning.
