Rochester Police: Officer, civilian injured in Jay Street crash

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Two people, one of them a Rochester Police officer, are injured after a crash on Jay Street Friday night.

Police say it happened just before 9 p.m. when an RPD Officer was driving a marked patrol car eastbound on Jay Street, heading to a call for service.

Police say a vehicle headed west on Jay Street turned left directly in front of the patrol car near Whitney Street, and the two vehicles collided.

The police officer was taken to the hospital via ambulance and is being evaluated and treated for injuries.

Police say the driver was a 24-year-old Rochester man, and he was taken to the hospital via ambulance with injuries. Police say he was also charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs as well as traffic violations.

There were two other people in the car, police say. One didn’t appear to be injured, and the other ran away after the crash.
