ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — For the first time in 98 years, the Rochester Rotary Sunshine Camp wasn't able to open.
The Rotary Sunshine Camp serves children with disabilities but was canceled
Kids who were registered for the camp got a special gift Friday.
Camp staff delivered "camp in a bag" to several kids.
The camp theme bags included items like frisbees, sunglasses and more.
Parents say this shows the connection between the kids and counselors goes beyond being at camp.
“We're so appreciative of them for going out and taking the time to visit all the kids, and bring them a bag of goodies,” mother Amie Wagner said. “He will treasure everything that they brought him. And it helps to keep that connection. Until next year.”
The camp staff plan to hand out or mail more than 200 hundred bags to campers.
