ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — It was a busy day of sifting through donations at the Boys and Girls Club of Rochester, and it's all thanks to an idea from a local teen.

After having a discussion with his family at the dinner table about the pandemic, Rohan Chitre recruited two friends from Victor High School to hand out flyers asking people to donate canned goods and coats.

When they collected the items last week, Chitre says they had to go get an extra car to make sure everything fit.

The group says they brought in nearly 100 coats and multiple carts of food.

"I thought it was eye-opening how people our age are affected so differently than, like, us," Chitre said. "I'm never worried about if I'd need a coat or if I don't know where my next meal is coming from."

Chitre says he hopes to make this an annual event.
