ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Rochester woman charged in the Monday morning stabbing death of a city man was arraigned Tuesday morning.

29-year-old Jamie Lynn Prescott appeared in Rochester City Court to face her second-degree murder charge.

Police say she stabbed 59-year-old Anthony Lovett in the head and neck inside a Mini-mart on Lake Avenue. RPD says the two were acquaintances and started arguing at the time of the stabbing. No customers were inside the store.

Lovett's killing marked the city's 77th homicide of the year.

"This was a senseless completely pointless act and obviously they are having a really hard time dealing with that but we look forward to doing what we can for them, for Mr. Lovett, and bringing justice to this case," Monroe County Assistant District Attorney Eleanor Biggers said.

Prescott will be back in court on Friday for a preliminary hearing.
