ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Police are investigating another homicide after a woman who was shot earlier this week in Rochester died from her injuries.
Police say 21-year-old Madison Boorom of Rochester was shot in her upper body at around 1:30 p.m. Monday at the corner of Dr. Samuel McCree Way and Jefferson Avenue.
Boorom was in guarded condition at the hospital, but police say she died Tuesday. A man, also in his 20s, was shot in the lower body. He was treated and released from the hospital.
Police say over 20 gunshots were fired in the area. Rochester Police Deputy Chief of Operations Dave Smith said he believes both victims were the intended targets of the shooting, and they were standing on the sidewalk while the suspects were in a car.
According to Rochester Police Cpt. Frank Umbrino, this is the city's 33rd homicide of the year.
A group of Rochester residents planned a march from the Boys and Girls Club to Dr. Samuel McCree Way Wednesday evening as a statement against the violence.
