ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Rochester man was shot dead and two people are recovering from gunshot wounds after a shooting Friday morning.
Rochester Police say they went to the scene at Monroe Avenue near Meigs Street around 1 a.m.
Officers say a group of people got into an argument, and then multiple shots were fired. Police say none of the victims were the shooters, but police couldn't say if they were part of the fight.
The man died at the scene, while the two others were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital.
Friday evening, police identified the man who was killed as 19-year old Matthew Williams of Rochester.
News10NBC spoke to William Merkel, who says he witnessed the shooting.
"I think the person who was running was shot at first and he was retaliating in defense of his own," Merkel said. "He shot back but he dropped first. When I came up to the corner he was in the middle of the street yelling for help."
Officers believe there are potentially two shooters, but no arrests have been made.
