ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Rochester Police Department is providing more information on Friday's assault on Denver Street and Parsells Avenue, including revealing details on the victims for the first time while acknowledging the incident is being investigated as a possible hate crime.
Police say they responded around 1 p.m. to the area of Melville Street after receiving a report of an assault on Denver. Upon arrival, they found a 30-year-old and 23-year-old who had been victims of an assault. An investigation found that the victims were approached by two suspects who at first engaged in a "verbal altercation" with the victims over one of the victims' sexual orientation before the assault took place.
The 30-year-old victim had to be taken to a local hospital for injuries.
The Rochester Police Department says that the incident is being investigated as a potential hate crime and they are working with the Monroe County District Attorney's Office. They have also released videos showing persons of interest, which can be seen below.
