ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester Police Officers say they cleared out Ontario Beach Park Monday night after fights broke out.

RPD says the first fight broke out at around 8 p.m. on the pier. The captain at the scene said a command post was already set up, because incidents like this seem to happen at the park every Memorial Day weekend.

As the first fight was being addressed, several fights broke out, according to police.

Other agencies responded and helped clear out the park by around 8:30 p.m. according to RPD.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Greece Police Department, New York State Troopers and the Irondequoit Police Department arrived to control the large crowd.

Monroe County Sheriff's deputies arrived with pepper ball guns.

Police told our crew at the scene one person was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say crowds at Ontario Beach Park were peaceful earlier Monday until a group of troublemakers showed up.

Fights have broken out throughout the weekend. City leaders responded to the wave of violence earlier Monday.

"We have been working so hard on the issue of violence in this community with so many wonderful partners who are very committed to try and end you know what we saw over this weekend," Deputy Mayor James Smith said.

Mayor Lovely Warren posted a message on her Facebook page Monday, calling on people to do better for their children.

"Our children deserve to see adults in this community acting better. The trauma they’re experiencing today will be with them for life. I’m not asking you to act better for me. I’m asking you to do better for our children. We will reap, what we sow," her post read.

Some officers remain on scene to prevent people from congregating again.
