Upon arrival, police found 200 to 300 people gathering in the street blocking traffic in the area.

Police say as officers were addressing the crowd, a person was observed with a handgun. Officers were able to safely separate and detain the individual. Police recovered an illegal handgun and arrested a 29-year-old Rochester woman for criminal possession of a weapon. Another arrest was made as officers were addressing fights within the crowd. A 30-year-old Rochester woman was arrested for disorderly conduct.

The investigation is still ongoing, but it is believed that the crowd gathered for a party in the area.

The Rochester Police Chief La'Ron Singletary released a statement on Saturday regarding the incident:

"Aside from the obvious disregard for social distancing guidelines and the health of others; large disruptive gatherings are a nuisance to our fellow citizens who would like to enjoy the comfort of their homes and neighborhoods during this pandemic. Often times, the unsanctioned parties result in violence and disruption to the surrounding neighborhoods. Last night was the most recent example of this behavior resulting in yet another illegal handgun taken off of our streets. The person who possessed this handgun was charged accordingly. The Rochester Police Department will not stand for this behavior. Any and all violations of local, state, and federal laws will be strictly enforced with regard to these unsanctioned gatherings and parties. The Rochester Police Department WILL continue to Serve and Protect the good citizens of our city."
