ROCHESTER N.Y. (WHEC) — The Monroe County Sheriff's Office and the New York State Police will increase their patrols around schools in wake of the Texas elementary school shooting that killed 19 children on Tuesday.

In a statement, MCSO Deputy Brendan Hurley said more of their patrols will be directed at Rochester-area schools.

"As many of us are parents of school aged children, we are also deeply concerned with the events in Texas," Hurley said.

NYSP will conduct daily check-ins at some schools. On Wednesday morning, Gov. Kathy Hochul had an emergency meeting with state police about protecting schools after the Texas mass shooting.

The Livingston County Sheriff's Office also announced that they will increase security for schools.

"Please know that there is currently no known threat in our schools but out of an abundance of caution you will see more Deputy Sheriffs around your schools over the next several weeks," Sheriff Dougherty said in a statement.
