ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)— A local group says it’s hoping to stop the violence in Rochester, and Saturday, it held an event to reach out to the younger male population in the community.

Uniting and Healing Through Hope of Monroe County held a march, seminar, and cookout. Organizer Clay Harris said he believes young boys need to know and learn from their fathers, to not spread violence in their community.

The organization has hosted several marches and rallies throughout Rochester, and the rest of the county

"The purpose is for us to come together as a community to unite, you know, to try to get the men and the young men together just to plant seeds of hope, and of opportunity and that there’s a better way," Harris said. "If we all come together, we can achieve that better way."

A number of speakers joined the seminar, including presumptive Rochester Mayor Malik Evans.
