ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — We are 36 days from election day. In Monroe County, election officials predict an 80% turnout.
That's why News10NBC wants to clear up a mistake that a lot of you are getting in the mail.
Just about every registered voter got a voter information letter from the Monroe County Board of Elections.
The board mailed 350,000 of them.
The problem is the board mailed the letters before the polling places were locked down and so in some of the letters the place they tell you to vote is wrong.
The confusion for Paul Soscia started when he went on a national voter webpage. It told him his polling place was the neighborhood firehouse.
"And then we get this letter in the mail, which I have here," Soscia said. It was the information letter from the Board of Elections. It said he votes at Greece Canal Park.
"So I called the Board of Elections and they said no, this isn't right either," he said.
Soscia says the board told him he is supposed to vote at Greece Ridge Mall.
"Then I called you because I said, you know what? This is probably something we need to know on a larger scale," he said.
This problem came up at a news conference with the leadership of the Board of Elections last week. Republican Deputy Election Commissioner Nancy Leven said they were directed by Governor Cuomo to mail the voter information letter to the household of every registered voter.
Nancy Leven, (R) Dep. Commissioner, Monroe County Board of Elections: "Unfortunately the poll sites were not all set yet, we have just finalized them in the last day or so and some of them may have received incorrect information. The voters who are affected will receive a new letter from us, a new notification."
There's a simple solution:
