ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A statue of Rochester founder Nathaniel Rochester was found defaced on Friday, his hands painted red, and the words "white supremacy" written on his back.
Controversial monuments have been at the center of the recent debates over race in the country, and Rochester had been a known slave owner and trader.
It isn't known when the statue was defaced.
