Street in North Winton Village put under shelter in place after shots fired call

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A standoff in North Winton Village had some Rochesterians under a shelter in place order for about two hours Tuesday evening.

It all started at around 6:30 p.m. on De Mallie Street near Humboldt Street with a 911 call from someone who said they heard gunshots.

Responding officers found evidence that shots had been fired, and once they traced the evidence to a house that they believed to have been involved in the incident, police say the people inside refused to let them in.

Because a firearm was involved, police say they had to order a shelter in place around the house.

Eventually, police were able to get the people out of the house. Police said Tuesday night they were speaking to a person of interest, and though the shelter in place has been lifted and the streets in the area have reopened, the incident is still under investigation.
