Empowerment is at the core of Dr. Rachel Farkas' approach to treating breast cancer patients.

She recently joined the Vega Plastic Surgery practice in Pittsford, where she starts off patient consultations by educating them about the disease and about their treatment options. It's from this education process, says Dr. Farkas, that patients begin to feel empowered.

While science and medicine are an integral part of what Dr. Farkas does, they're not everything. She factors in relationships, family, and aims to form personal connections with her patients while developing a treatment plan.

"I realized that there is a part of this breast cancer journey that patients go through that has nothing to do about the medicine. It has to do with how they feel and how they're empowered," said Farkas.

Dr. Farkas works with her patients to develop treatment plans that can include lumpectomies, mastectomies, or balancing procedures. She believes no two breast cancer journies are the same, and works to come up with solutions that meet each patient's unique needs.
