ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — One of our own celebrated residents of the Rochester area is now a Barbie doll: Susan B. Anthony.
Why? Because this year is a special year.
"2020 is the 100th anniversary of the ramification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution giving women the right to vote and laying the groundwork for more equality that American genders have ever had before," says Christopher Bensch from The Strong Museum.
As a result, this doll represents a lot for women of the past and present.
"It recognizes her importance and that serves as an inspiration to girls and women everywhere for what they can accomplish," says Bensch.
The Susan B Anthony doll was released a week ago, and it is the newest doll from the women of influence line from Barbie. and the Strong has a new exhibit that all Barbie lovers will love.
"Barbie's first identity was as a teenage fashion model when she came out in 1959," says Bensch. Since then, though, they have came out with more than one billion different outfits for her and her friends and the strong is highlighting that.
The Strong is showing one example of her outfits from every year from 1960 right up to the present in their display. This year is Barbie's 60th anniversary, so it is a great time to celebrate Barbie and all of her looks over the years.
"Barbie has been a trendsetter and she followed in the footsteps of her predecessor Susan B Anthony. It is great to be able to put them together at this display and celebrate both Barbie and Susan B Anthony together," says Bensch.
You can schedule a trip to the Strong Museum here.
