FAIRPORT, N.Y. (WHEC) — A local gym that has been allowed to reopen since the region entered Phase Four is finally opening its doors on Monday.
The Little Gym in Fairport has gymnastics programs for kids. Owner Ythan Lax says he could have opened two weeks ago, but decided to wait to see how the COVID-19 numbers looked.
Lax tells News10NBC the federal Paycheck Protection Program loan has helped keep the business going during the closure.
“It's been a frustrating process as the owner, not understanding when we were going to open and what that was going to do to us both financially and in terms of our reputation and the knowledge that people have of us in the community,” Lax said. “Thankfully the SBA came through with us for a loan that allows us to continue operations and members have really been great about understanding that if they don't wanna do classes now, we can push them off and hopefully most of them will decide to come back in the summer as most have.”
Lax tells News10NBC that multiple social distancing protocols have been put in place to make sure families are safe. That includes scrubbing the entire business down and reducing the number of classes from 18 to five.
The Little Gym is set to reopen later Monday morning.
