Town of Sweden to hold public meeting on opting out of recreational marijuana sales

SWEDEN, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Town of Sweden is holding a public hearing Tuesday night to decide whether or not it will opt-out of New York’s legal recreational marijuana sales.

As part of the state’s legalization of recreational marijuana, any city, town or village government in New York can choose to opt-out of allowing sales, but it must decide and pass a local law by Dec. 31, 2021.

If a local government decides to opt out, it will not receive tax dollars from recreational marijuana.
