ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A unique volleyball game Saturday pitted newly-immigrated Afghans against U.S. veterans.

The friendly match, hosted by Compeer Rochester took place between the Afghan Eagles and CompeerCORPS veterans. The event helped to build camaraderie and community among our newest Rochestarians.

The Afghan Eagles are a group of translators and interpreters who provided their critical skills to U.S. troops in Afghanistan. Many of those translators are now living in Rochester.

Compeer Rochester is a community mental health agency seeking to break the stigma around mental illness through the power of human connection, volunteerism, and positive social and recreational outlets for individuals and families, and veterans.
