ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The United Way is getting some help as it helps the community deal with the coronavirus crisis.
ESL Federal Credit Union is giving the organization a $4 million grant.
The money will be used to support 20 health and human agencies that provide people with basics, like food, shelter and jobs.
The pandemic has increased the demand for services.
According to the United Way, calls for help to 211 lifeline have tripled since March.
Most of those calls have been for food and housing.
Tuesday's announcement comes just weeks after the United Way announced a significant gap in fundraising of its annual campaign.
