ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Wednesday night is the start of Week 4 of the high school football season, those involved are just thrilled that they get a chance to compete in the sport they love.

Through the first three weeks of the season, there's one team in particular who's celebrating a whole lot of nothing... in the best way possible.

It's a familiar sight at UPrep games, the opposing team not being able to move the ball much… and not scoring at all.

"If you go into the game, the standard has been set and you meet that standard or you come out," UPrep Head Coach Isiah Young said.

Through three games this season the UPrep Griffins have allowed a grand total of zero points. The players are aware of that stat and they're quite proud of it.

"We talk about that heavily,” UPrep senior Brandon Lucas said. “We hold that to a high standard because we want to be one of the first varsity teams to hold other teams to zero points. We take that very seriously."

Shutouts are a great thing to aspire to on game day, but for UPrep it's a mentality that starts in practice.

"How they play in a game is a reflection of their practice habits,” Young said, “when I saw them going through practice like it's a game, that's when I thought it'd be a special defense."

One of the stars of the defense is Sharod Watkins. He lets his play on the field do most of the talking, but he's proud of the work he and his teammates have done so far.

"A lot because that means we put in the dedication to make that happen," Watkins said. "We have that friendship, the athletes."

The seniors on the team want the scoreless streak to continue.

"It makes me feel great,” Lucas said. “I love this team, these coaches, I love everything about this school, so for that to happen and us to be in week 3 without being scored on makes me very happy."

Wednesday night UPrep takes their shutout streak on the road to Penfield.
