ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — UR Medicine is considering a pause on elective surgeries due to a staffing shortage.
A spokesperson says UR's hospitals are working as a system to minimize impacts on patient care after unvaccinated employees are no longer able to work.
One step under consideration at Strong is not to schedule new elective surgeries for the two-week period beginning Sept. 27th, which would free up the staff who could be redeployed to critical care areas.
This news comes a day after hundreds of healthcare workers rallied outside Strong Memorial Hospital against the recent vaccine mandate.
Healthcare workers have until Sept. 27 to get their first COVID-19 vaccine dose or they'll be forced to resign.
