ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The University of Rochester Medical Center doesn’t agree that the care provided to Daniel Prude at Strong Memorial Hospital on March 22 is an example of systemic shortfalls.

URMC believes that Prude’s care was medically appropriate and compassionate.

In a statement released on Friday the University of Rochester Medical Center says:

"URMC does not agree that the care our hospital provided in this case is an example of the systemic shortfalls we all want to address. Based on our review, we believe his care was medically appropriate and compassionate. As we said Thursday in extending our deepest sympathies to the Prude family, privacy laws prevent us from discussing Daniel Prude’s evaluation or treatment at Strong Memorial Hospital. While reviewing his case internally, we have asked the family to meet with us so that we can answer any questions they have about his care. In addition, we have sent a HIPAA release form to the Prude family, asking permission to share information about Daniel Prude’s care as part of this important community and national conversation."

URMC is reviewing Prude’s case internally and it has asked the family to meet so they can answer any questions.
