VICTOR, N.Y. (WHEC) — Christmas gifts were delivered to some truly deserving patients at Golisano Children’s Hospital Monday.

The Victor girls basketball team and the not-for-profit “Primetime 585” teamed up to gather and wrap coats and toys for the sickle cell program.

Student-athletes helped deliver more than 300 gifts to kids on Monday.

"I can’t imagine going through what they’re going through and just knowing that you might be able to put a little bit of a smile on their face and bring a little bit of joy is an amazing feeling," said player Rachel Gill.

"I always think of play as the best therapy so you know they may come in with pain or other complications from sickle cell but to be able to see an amazing toy or have a new coat for winter or have a slinky to play with will just be truly amazing," said Sickle Cell Program Director Suzie Noronha.

Primetime 585 and volunteer athletes are also donating more toys to restock the toy chest in the sickle cell unit.
