Witness to quadruple shooting on Driving Park Avenue speaks out

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — We’re learning more about a shooting that happened on Driving Park Avenue early Sunday morning. Two people are dead and two others are still in the hospital.

Police say a large group of people was hanging out in an alley when the suspect(s) in question, approached that alley and started shooting.

One witness, Edward Hahn, was distraught over what he saw through his window Sunday morning. He told News10NBC about those frightening moments.

"All the sudden, I see a lot of people gathered around, then I see a cop giving CPR to someone, but, the guy is dead. People were running up and down the corridor of the two buildings, there were a lot of people outside in the parking lot.”

Hahn says he heard screaming and saw a large group of people running.

"I looked out the window and I saw a lot of people running, all over the place.”

Investigators described the scene as "chaotic" when they arrived. They say there were about 100 people scattered around the area.

"Unknown suspect or suspects approached that alley from driving park, and immediately began firing gunshots down the alley at the victims,” Capt. Frank Umbrino said, with the Rochester Police Department.

Two people were pronounced dead on the scene. The two other victims were sent to the hospital. One is in critical condition, the other is expected to be ok. Capt. Umbrino said officers were on scene within minutes with their shot spotter system.

“They were attempting to render the aid that they could, unfortunately, the injuries were too severe,” Umbrino said.

Umbrino said this shooting and the Pennsylvania Avenue shooting last year have many similarities, exactly one year later.

“Pennsylvania Avenue was on Sept. 19, the call came in a little after 12, today is Sept. 19 and this came in about 2:20 so, two hours apart, but here we are a year later dealing with the same situation,” Umbrino said.
