City of Rochester staffs up to keep roads passable

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The City of Rochester is working to try and keep roads passable Monday.

City of Rochester Operations Director Karen St. Aubin stressed the importance of drivers obeying alternate parking laws so that crews can plow arterial roads. St. Aubin said the City has 12 additional operators and 30 extra refuse trucks with plows attached on the road. Refuse collection is delayed for one day as a result.

"The most important thing that I can ask is that people abide by our parking," St. Aubin said. "It’s so very important that they stay on the side of the street for that day, so we can have a solid lane to get down. It’s amazing how much one car parked improperly can really challenge us."

St. Aubin also asked drivers not to drive unless it’s necessary. Monroe County is under a no unnecessary travel advisory. She reminded drivers who do need to be out to give plows plenty of room.

Property owners are responsible for clearing the sidewalk by their property, and anyone with property near a fire hydrant is asked to clear snow from the hydrant.
