ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Snow showers will continue through the rest of the morning hours and into the early afternoon today.

Heads up for a quick drop in visibility on the roadways from 10 this morning and into the early afternoon as a Lake Ontario showband swings in with a chance to see a brief period of heavy snow. Some roadways may also be slick at this time.  widespread snow showers this morning and early afternoon will give way to isolated and lingering snow showers late this afternoon and evening as things settle down. Total snow accumulations across the region will range from a coating to two inches with a localized location or two seeing near 3 inches by tomorrow morning. Things will be quiet early Monday morning before another round of light snow moves in during the late afternoon hours. Not much is expected out of this, but it will move in during the evening commute which may create a slick spot or two. Snow accumulation with this second round of snow will be minor with near an inch possible.

Again this week, the wind chill will be a factor with persistent cold and another artic air invasion. Early Monday, we may see wind chills drop below zero as temperatures tonight drop to near 0 again. The cold air will linger through early this week as afternoon highs only make their way into the 20s. After our second round of light snow swings through Tuesday morning, arctic air makes another appearance locally. Temperatures Tuesday night drop to the single digits and then below zero Wednesday night. Wind chills will also be a big factor as the real feel will drop below 0 and near minus 10 Wednesday morning, afternoon, and into Thursday morning. The good news is that it does not last long as temperatures make their way into the 20s Thursday afternoon. We will remain on the cooler side of things through next weekend, and then things will turn seasonable early next week as high return to the 30s. As for the potential storm next weekend, things are setting up well too far east for any impacts locally right now, but things can still change as we are a week away. Follow the First Alert weather Team this week for updates on the cold and if we see any winter weather impacts next weekend.
