ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) - Many of us woke-up to a small amount of snow on the ground this morning with the Rochester Airport officially measuring one inch of snow. However, the snow season is getting off to a rather slow start.
It is interesting to note the average amount of total snowfall for this time of the year is now running about three and a half inches below normal.
Looking ahead, a weak disturbance will approach Western New York later tonight and Tuesday. You can expect some light flurries and wet snow showers developing. These snow showers will linger into Tuesday morning. We may find a coating of snow on grassy surfaces, but little or no accumulation is generally expected. The temperature tonight will fall into the upper 20s and rise into the upper 30 on Tuesday. It may be just mild enough on Tuesday afternoon that we mix of few light rain showers.
The News 10 NBC First Alert meteorologists expect a more southwesterly wind flow for the first few days of December. That will be some good news if you are doing any holiday shopping or plan on putting up the Christmas lights. Milder temperatures will return for Wednesday and Thursday as the mercury will rise into the 40s. That should be some of the warmest weather in almost a week for Rochester. Look for dry weather and partial sunshine on Wednesday and a few rain showers for Thursday.
However, gusty winds will arrive later Thursday as a fast moving storm crosses the northern Great Lakes. We expect a series of cold fronts will move into Western New York bringing flurries, gusty winds and much colder weather. Friday you can expect the temperature to fall again into the 30s.
