ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A cold front crossed the area earlier today and this will usher in a nice change for the remainder of the weekend. Looks like a fine Saturday evening as skies will clear across Western New York.
The humidity will be falling overnight and the temperature will drop to within a few degrees of 60 and readings will fall into the 50s south of Rochester. There could be some patchy valley fog developing late tonight. Sunday promises to bring near-perfect weather. Look for bright sunshine, much lower humidity and comfortable temperatures. The high temperature on Sunday will be in the low 70s.
Summer-like heat and humidity will return on Monday and Tuesday. Expect more sunshine to start the workweek, and with an increasing southerly wind, the heat and humidity will rise as well. The early portion of the week will feature above-normal temperatures as the mercury will rise to within a few degrees of 80 (typically we are usually in the low 70s).
However, by mid-week, a significant change is set to arrive. A cold front with an associated low-pressure system will be advancing through the Great Lakes. Weather computer models are showing differences in the timing, but no doubt the chance of rain will be increasing Wednesday with an increased risk of downpours Wednesday night into Thursday. As this front passes the News10NBC First Alert Weather team expects sharply cooler weather for Thursday as the temperature will struggle to get to the 60°. This is one time that the calendar will match the weather as the first full day of the autumn arrives on Thursday.
