ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) - I think you will agree that we have been fortunate so far this season to not have to deal with the tropical weather. But that will change.
There are heat advisories that are in effect through the Great Lakes and just recently an advisory has been posted in proportions of Western New York. There is a heat advisory now in effect for Wednesday starting at 11:00 AM and running through 6:00 p.m.
Do we set any kind of record high temperatures? Certainly, the record for today is safe, that temperature is up to 100 degrees. Tomorrow we may have a better chance of challenging the record that stands at 93 degrees. The forecast calls for the mercury to rise to within a few degrees of 90. So a little closer to a record by the afternoon.
Here are a few tips to deal with the hot weather. First, you always want to stay hydrated. In addition, it seems like common sense that you should wear light-colored clothing and lightweight clothing. And if at all possible avoid any of that strenuous activity - especially during the middle of the day. For example, if you are going to go out jogging or you want to work in the yard it is a good idea to do it early in the morning or towards the evening. This is a way to plan around the most intense heat of the day. And never leave pets or children inside a locked car.
We know the temperature goes and may surprise you how quickly we reach maximum heating for the day. If the outside temperature reaches 90 degrees, the temperature inside that car goes up, and within one hour, can exceed 130 degrees. Whatever it takes to remind yourself that you have some precious cargo in the backseat.
My thought is that just like taking precautions in the winter season we also want to take the same cautionary attitude with summer weather.
