First Alert Weather In-Depth: Endless summer? A look at the warm next few weeks

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — This time of the year you may be thinking about maybe getting a hot cup of tea or getting a fire going in the fireplace, but there are some differences in terms of what’s going to play out in the weather.

I mean it’s obvious that this time of the year it should be getting cooler. Just take a look at the average temperature from the beginning of the month where it normally is about 68°, these are calculated over 30 years, and then you go through the end of the month and the average high temperature is about 55°. This is no surprise because we lose about an hour and a half of daylight.

Now take a look at the weather pattern. One of our computer models shows a shift that’s going to take place in the pattern as the jet stream is pushing out to the west, where all the cool weather is going to be located at least for the foreseeable future.

So when you take a look at the 6 to 10-day probability of what the temperature is going to look like, this is where all the cool weather is going to be located. The eastern half of the country is going to be much above normal at least in terms of probability and even when you take a look at the next one to two weeks the probability is pretty high that it is going to stay above the average temperatures going forward. So this is something you will look forward to. I guess for a lot of us above normal temperatures will be expected for the next 1 to 2 weeks. It may actually feel more like early September. That’s not to say that we’re not going to get a little cool down here and there, but on average above average temperature is going to stay with us.

At this point, we don’t see any record high temperatures, but we’ll see how close we do come to any records. Anyway, we are talking about decent weather with maybe not all the fanfare to go with it.
