ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A wonderful weather day is expected today. After a cool start this morning, temperatures will make their way into the mid and upper 70s for afternoon highs. Not only that, but the dew points will remain low so it will remain comfortable!

After a few clouds early this morning, plenty of sun is expected this afternoon as high pressure has firm control of our weather locally. High pressure will slide over the Atlantic for Memorial Day which means we will turn hot and humid. High temperatures will climb into the upper 80s tomorrow with dew points likely in the low 60s.

Although the rise in temperatures and dew points are expected, we will remain dry as high pressure continues to dictate our weather locally. If you are heading out over the next couple of days, make sure you are prepared to protect your skin form the UV rays as UV indices will be around 8 and 9 through Tuesday. This means that sun burn time will be half an hour or less.

Also when heading out to any Memorial Day Ceremonies tomorrow, bring the extra bottle of water as it will feel a little warmer. Relief from the heat and humidity will come Wednesday in the form of a cold front which will also bring us a chance for thunderstorms.

We will be watching this cold front for not just thunderstorms, but an opportunity for strong thunderstorms as they roll through. Thunderstorm energy will be plentiful due to the hot and humid conditions, but timing of the cold front will be important. The later in the afternoon the cold front swings through locally, the greater the chance for a strong storm locally.

However, if this front swings through in the morning hours before the energy builds at the surface than our threat for strong storms lessens significantly. No alert out there right now, but it will be something to monitor as we over through the next few days.
