ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Red Alert from this morning is being downgraded to a Yellow, as conditions begin to improve this afternoon.

The main batch of snow is beginning to move out, leaving most of the area with at least a foot of snow, higher amounts north and west of Rochester. We're not totally done with the snow, though. We'll see some more wraparound snow, along with some lake-enhanced snow this afternoon and evening as the area of low pressure pulls away. This will deliver a few more inches on top of what has already fallen. Winds will also be gusty out of the northwest, creating some areas of blowing and drifting snow on roads in open areas.

Road conditions should continue to slowly improve this afternoon as the snow moves out, and plows are able to continue to clear the snow from this morning. Many of the main roads are looking great, with the side streets still snow-covered. It'll take many folks a few hours to dig out cars and driveways, but our first bigger storm in more than a year is winding down!
