ROCHESTER, NY (WHEC) – Fairport senior Alex Palmer, a theme in his life has been earning something that hasn’t come easy.

“Just seeing myself at the end,” he said. “Seeing myself at the end, finally finishing what I always wanted to get. be the best that I possibly can knowing that I earned it.”

He was diagnosed with Multidirectional Shoulder Laxity and shoulder instability his junior year. His older sister had the same condition. Learning what she went through allowed him to compete in the NY state swim that year.

“I’d say about two months I was only kicking, hardly even got in the water before some big meet,” the 3x All-County 1st Team member added. “So that was like hard to push through. But I learned to do that. When it bothers me now I’m just like ‘I’ve done it before, I can do it again.'”

He’s an A-student who’s been on high honor roll dating back to 8th grade. In the spring, he’s expected to graduate Magna Cum Laude with a regent’s diploma. He also recently joined the National Honors Society.

On the side, he started a business four years ago selling lures, a side project derived from his longtime hobby a longtime hobby of fishing. Palmer has also worked as a landscaper and power washer in the summer. A passion for business lies at the center of it all.

“Word of mouth is really important and like marketing. And I was like, that’s kind of interesting. So maybe I could either go into marketing or finance.”

He’s doing all of that while continuing to keep swimming in the mix but now in a more charitable way.

“I’m hoping to like do something like a little soon lesson thing for free through National Honor Society, which is what I just joined.”

Congrats to Fairport High’s Alex Palmer on being this week’s News 10 NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week!
