PENFIELD, N.Y. (WHEC) — Taking some time to practice in his back yard, Penfield's Isaac Lehigh is used to working hard at lacrosse.

He won Penfield's Iron Eagle Award by breaking the record for events that combine physical ability as well as academic work.

"It felt really cool to break the record because I remember sophomore year watching the guy break the previous record and it seemed so unattainable," Isaac said.

A multi-sport athlete in both soccer and lacrosse, it's the physicality of lacrosse that makes it Isaac's favorite sport.

"I like lacrosse mainly because I can whack people with a stick,” Isaac joked. “That's why I play defense because I can hit them from further away and more often."

Not that he's ever tried, but we're pretty sure Isaac would be able to figure out the math behind appropriate whacking of opponents with a lacrosse stick, he's going to be a physics major at Syracuse next year.

"I've always kind of liked math and science and in my junior year I had a great physics teacher named Mrs. Street and that got me hooked," Isaac said.

The National Honor Society member also balances sports and school with a part-time job and has better than a 98 average.

Congratulations Isaac Lehigh, the News10NBC Scholar-Athlete of the Week!
