ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — She was dynamic during the indoor track season, and when outdoor track resumes, this week's Scholar-Athlete will once again soar through the air.
“I got first in long and triple jump and I got 3rd in the hurdles so it wasn't that bad."
That's not just a good meet for Nia Williams-Matthews, a senior at Aquinas, that's what she did during sectionals for indoor track this year.
And once the outdoor track season returns, Nia wants to get back on top of the podium.
"For outdoor, I would like to be the champion for long and triple jump," Nia said. "I really want to come out on top in my senior year, hopefully for relay as well."
She'll continue her track career in college, next year Nia will run at Youngstown State.
"When I first went on the campus I knew within 30 minutes that this could be my home for the next four years," Nia said.
An honor roll student and future Exercise Science major with the hopes of becoming a coach, Nia brings her practice philosophy into everyday life.
"It takes a lot of hard work and dedication,” Nia said. “sometimes you just want to stop and not do anything, but if you want to go somewhere in life you have to keep going no matter what."
Excellent words to live by, and congratulations Nia Williams-Matthews, the News10NBC Scholar-Athlete of the week!
