ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WHEC) – The Buffalo Bills nabbed their new punter on Wednesday, signing former Detroit Lions and Denver Broncos punter, Sam Martin.
Buffalo signed Martin on Wednesday, and Bills GM Brandon Beane laid out the reasoning behind Martin being the guy.
“We wanted a vet, not only as a punter, but a guy who we’ve seen hold plenty of games,” said Beane.
That was a big part of why the Bills cut Matt Haack during training camp, who struggled with holds at times in 2021.
The Bills were without a punter after releasing rookie Matt Araiza amid gang-rape accusations.
Martin will only have a few official practices before the Bills take the stage to open the 2022 NFL season in Los Angeles on Thursday, Sept. 8.
